MAHA Update - Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders proposed a reform to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to prohibit the purchase of soda, candy, and other unhealthy items. The initiative aims to improve health outcomes for approximately 350,000 SNAP recipients in the state. The proposal also includes redirecting SNAP education funds to promote healthier food options and enhance nutrition education .

MAHA Update - Governor Mike Braun, supported by U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and CMS Director Dr. Mehmet Oz, introduced measures to restrict the purchase of soda and candy with SNAP benefits. The initiative includes stricter work and eligibility requirements, aiming to enhance participants' health and reduce taxpayer burden .

West Virginia
MAHA Update - A bill under consideration in the West Virginia House of Delegates would prohibit recipients of SNAP benefits from using them to purchase soft drinks and candy. The legislation is part of a broader effort to promote healthier food choices for SNAP recipients .

Utah
MAHA Update - Utah Legislature A bill before the Utah Legislature seeks a waiver from the federal government to prohibit the purchase of candy and soda with SNAP benefits. The proposal is part of a push by Republican legislators to align with the MAHA initiative and address concerns about obesity and chronic illness .

MAHA Update - Lawmakers in Texas have filed a legislative package to "Make Texas Healthy Again," which includes bills to advance diet and healthy food choices and mitigate chronic illnesses and obesity in the state. One of the bills proposes prohibiting junk food from being eligible for SNAP benefits .
